Each quilt has an original story or poem quilted directly into it, in both white thread and a contrasting color thread.  In this way, the 800+ words are a functional part of the quilt holding three layers of fabric together.  We machine quilt– by hand– thus our ‘comma cursive’ is original and freehanded, making no two quilts exactly alike.

A perfect moon

we decided to stay for the night. the moon has reached out for us - we nod in response. what passes in time {is a delightful mess,} softened, just so, by the moonlight penetrating the dust-soaked window.

the perfect moon whispers stories as we rest, wading towards home. molding ourselves into someone else’s dreams.

the light slips away, and with shoes removed, the dirt relaxes under our naked feet.

you stand at attention admiring the pines that resemble construction paper cut outs against the almost black sky. i look over and, at that moment, remember her in her  yellow linen pantalone. her word, not mine.

i’ll add it to my mental lexicon.  but, i digress.

the perfect moon sneaks out from the clouds. (you look lost.)

your usually agile legs are tethered to the rare moisture of the night air. how we arrived here we’re not quite sure. we met katherine in town as she pulled together some exacting work of mass lightness. while she worked, we delighted in the seemingly sudden capricious colors of the sky, now nearing darkness.
